If you have not read Ann Voskamp you need to. Her nonfiction is unlike typical dry nonfiction. She has a way with words that pierces right to the heart, and for someone who forces herself to read nonfiction in order to grow and become a better person, I don’t have to force myself to read her. I actually want to read her poetic nonfiction. She also has a way of wording theology that makes you wonder why you’ve never thought of it that way. As in mind blowing statements that I tend to only hear when I read theologians. This had been on my list for ages, but since it was a devo, which I usually don’t care for I had passed it by. It it’s worth it and I didn’t bother with 60 days, but listened in a week. And the audio is her own voice, so you feel her intentions. And there’s something for everyone. Lots of deep thought provoking thoughts and reminders to savor every moment of the life you’re given. Have you ever been to the Blue Ridge Mountains? My sister lived in NC for four years, so I always drove through them. They are gorgeous and go on for hours, and really look blue.
This book is a feel good happy one, even though some frustrating and very real things happen. In fact if you’ve been around angry alcoholics you might be triggered, that was stressful to read. If you love Christy you will love this story. I’m so glad I had the sequel downloaded already -thank you @netgalley and @barbourbooks because I swiped over to it the second I was finished with this one. I needed more.
But Laurel’s drive is inspiring and Jonathan’s ability to adapt is the true nature of a missionary and I admire his willingness-and I loved the little bit in England. This one is inexpensive on kindle and worth the read. Went into nature for some of these poetry writing exercises. I highly recommend this book. It’s lovely, each chapter is short, and it pushes you to write. If you like flash fiction this has been a fun little challenge every couple weeks to get creative and take a break from writing a long novel. This challenge had the prompt “the situation had gone from bad to worse”
Today’s story idea came from this postcard I found from Germany in an antique shop. I love how the writer filled every last millimeter of the postcard! COVER REVEAL time!
@authorkimberlyduffy has a new book coming and I can’t wait!
Her other books have been so unique and the settings in India and New York and England have been lovely. But I’m really looking forward to this one because I love New York and this one is not only set in one of my favorite states but also it’s about the circus! And a strong woman at that. Literal strongwoman. And an aerialist. As a dancer I have so much respect for aerial artists, they also need incredible strength.
As if that weren’t all, it’s a marriage of convenience trope and for some reason I can’t explain I love those stories. I can’t wait to see what she’s done!
Fun fact, I grew up near Bridgeport which is also known as the circus city because it’s where PT Barnum lived. My mom actually wrote a middle grade reader book about him and a girl living in Bridgeport, and I keep bugging her to submit it places. But she won’t! I think it’s a good idea. Anyhow, this book looks so good! On my trip two weeks ago the library had a cart of free books and this Sherlock collection was on it. And I think at Christmas I got this other collection real cheap. So now I need to mark off another sticker on my British Mystery authors passport which was a Christmas present. Since I’ve gotten the sticker the only one I’ve completed is Agatha Christie. I tried some Chesterton but never finished 🤦🏻‍♀️and Du Maurier will be a reread when I’m in the mood. Then I’ll have to stretch myself with Wilkie Collins and Dorothy Sayer who I’ve never heard of. And there’s a bonus one where I can choose. Any other British mystery authors you like?

I went on a little Palm Beach book tour with a friend who loves to read too.
I have not been impressed at all with the bookstores in Florida when I compare them to the other places I’ve lived )CT, Boston, NYC, Malta, The UK) Florida is the least academic place I’ve lived, aside from Malta, maybe.
But I should have known Palm Beach Island would be the place.
It’s only taken me three years, well I blame shutdowns for some of that time, to discover this gem.
First edition of Little Women, Emma, Tolkien, Cervantes-so many favorites! And they’re for sale if you have thousands to blow on books. Seriously though. When I’m missing Europe or NYC the island is the place to explore. So many fun courtyards and other places. I’m gonna post a reel later, but here’s a peek at this lovely gallery. I haven’t been reading much because I’ve been

I haven’t been reading much because I’ve been editing. After a basic edit of draft 1 I took notes where my characters and descriptions fall short.
As I’ve posted I’ve been using a poetry prompt book to help with descriptions. But I decided to make my character’s motivations and Deep POV a little stronger to read up on Meyers-Briggs and the Enneagram. I got home from the library with these books today just in time for my Bethel zoom class only to listen to @libby_gordon_ talk about not putting limitations on ourselves. And it’s like she saw these books in my room 😂because she talked about these tests. Which I 100% agree that these types of tests tend to put people into boxes. However, they helped me immensely when nannying once I figured out the parents enneagram numbers I was able to understand why they did what they did because I was often baffled daily by their life choices.
But to put limits on myself and say I can’t do things because I’m an introvert or to just excuse poor behavior because of a number well, that’s ridiculous.
So many times God calls us out of our comfort zone. If I fell into a box with labels I would never have opened a dance studio at age 25, I would never have had the courage to move to Europe at age 30, and I certainly wouldn’t have moved to Florida as a single female without God calling me.
But I am hoping these books will help me develop my two main characters, Esther and Michaela to have depth and relatability. Esther is likely a 2 and Michaela’s flaw seems to fit a 9 or a 7 really well. I can’t wait to figure out what drives them and layer in some more depth to their thought processes.
What do you think? Do these tests help you understand people better or do you feel like they hinder people from moving forward? Do you let them stop you from feeling qualified or do you let God be the one to call you?
